learntoskate

LEARN TO SKATE USA is a national program created to provide a fun and safe skating experience for learners ages 4+. The objectives of the program are:

  • To teach correct technique for basic elements
  • To promote health and physical fitness
  • To enable all participants to achieve the skills necessary to either skate for fun the rest of their lives or to move competently into the U.S. Figure Skating or USA Hockey competitive structures.

This is the only recognized instructional program of its kind in the country. LEARN TO SKATE USA is endorsed by US Figure Skating, USA Hockey, and US Speedskating. Our Coaches are certified LTS USA members.

WHEN IS LEARN TO SKATE?

LEARN TO SKATE USA runs year-round at Blazers Ice Centre! The class is scheduled in 5-week sessions, and students may attend either one or two classes each week. Our regular LTS USA program meets on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and our homeschool class meets on Thursdays. All dates are listed below. Students may enroll on or before the first class of any session.

IMPORTANT: Beginning with Session 7, Tuesday/Saturday LTS Classes are divided by skill level. Intermediate / Advanced levels will skate first, followed by Beginner / Introductory levels. Scroll down to view levels and class times. If you aren’t sure which class you / your skater should sign up for, call our front office at 405-631-3307 between 9am and 4pm, M-F. We are happy to help you find the right class!

WHAT TIME IS MY CLASS?

Note: We welcome Epic Charter Schools students, but online sign-up is temporarily unavailable. If you wish to utilize Epic funds, please visit our front desk to sign up.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

LTS USA offers a flexible pricing structure. Students can choose to attend one class each week or two, and Blazers Ice Centre offers a family discount for families with more than one skater enrolled. All students pay an annual registration fee which renews each year at the end of June. Pricing is outlined below.

RECOMMENDED CLOTHING LIST

Helmet

Use of a helmet is recommended for brand new skaters! Bicycle helmets are acceptable, but aerodynamic models are not recommended.

Gloves

Gloves protect hands and keep them warm.

Long Sleeves and Pants

Long sleeves and pants protect arms and legs and provide warmth.

Light Jacket

A light jacket is recommended during warm up. It can be removed later once skater is warm.

Socks

Ankle length socks will prevent blisters and keep feet clean and dry. Multiple pairs are uncomfortable. One pair is enough!

No Jeans or Shorts

Jeans are restrictive, and shorts are NOT allowed. Choose something that covers legs and allows for easy movement.

CLASS POLICIES

REGISTRATION

All sessions must be paid in full at time of registration. We reserve the right to refuse participation and future registration to any participant in any program offered at this facility.

Please do not wait until the session is over to re-register for the next session! Blazers Ice Centre does not hold spots for program participants.

Sign up for the skater’s current level. If changes are needed, our coaches will place your skater in the appropriate skill group, and update our records after evaluation week.

LTS PRACTICE ON PUBLIC SESSIONS

Blazers Ice Centre offers free skating for LTS students on the public sessions following all LTS classes. Students who wish to practice the skills they learned in class are invited to stay and practice for the entire public session that follows their class.

Public sessions are not included for days not on the LTS calendar, or classes that the student did not attend. Any public session that does not immediately follow a LTS class must be paid at the front desk.

CLASS DATES

Class dates do not always run consecutively, major holidays and competition dates are not included in the schedule. Please check the schedule to confirm when classes are planned.

Occasionally, the schedule does not include an equal number of Tuesday and/or Saturday classes. For those who attend Tuesday or Saturday classes only, please note class schedule and be sure to attend 5 classes. 1 alternated day may be required. Public sessions are not included for days not on the calendar.

NO REFUNDS or CREDITS

There will be no makeup classes, reduced price for missed classes or refunds due to inability to attend class for any reason. Blazers Ice Centre reserves the right to reschedule, change, or cancel a program due to uncontrollable circumstances. We will do our best to offer a make-up if possible.

HOMESCHOOL BILLING

Homeschool class session fees can be billed through Epic Charter Schools, but the LTS registration fee cannot. If you wish to bill summer sessions through Epic, you must register for any summer sessions you wish to attend before May 1.

If you wish to utilize your Epic fund for Learn to Skate, please visit our front desk to sign-up.
